Chatting

The chat view — composer, messages, tool activity, questions and approvals — is shared between the Full workspace and Quick Chat. Everything on this page applies to both, except where noted.

Type in the message box at the bottom of any conversation. A few things work from anywhere in the text:

  • @mentions — type @ to search agents by name or handle; picking one who isn’t already in the room invites them.
  • / commands — type / to see the daemon’s slash commands (/status, /retry, /compact, /context, /project, /models, /switch, /agents, /who, /schedule, /swarm, /memory, /export, /clear, /help).

Click the paperclip to attach a file:

  • From this computer… — pick a file; it’s uploaded to the daemon as part of your message.
  • Paste screenshot — paste an image straight into the message box.
  • You can also drag and drop files onto the composer.
  • Up to 10 files per message.

Click the microphone for voice input — hold it to record, release to transcribe into the composer.

While an agent’s reply is streaming, the composer switches to a two-way choice:

  • Into reply — your message is added to the agent’s current, still-running reply.
  • After reply — your message is queued and sent once the current reply finishes.

Enter sends using whichever mode is currently selected; ⌥Enter (Windows: Alt+Enter) sends using the other mode without changing your selection. Shift+Enter always inserts a newline instead of sending.

Queued messages (and withdrawable “into reply” messages) show in a strip above the composer. If the daemon is unreachable, new messages show as “Held on this computer” instead of queued — they’re kept locally and sent automatically once the daemon reconnects.

⌘. (Windows: Ctrl+.) stops a running reply — there’s also a Stop button next to the send button while something is streaming.

Hover a message to see its actions:

ActionWhat it does
CopyCopies the message text.
Edit and resendEdit your own message and resend it; ⌘Enter (Windows: Ctrl+Enter) saves and resends from the edit box. Resending removes the replies that came after it.
ResendSends the same message again as-is (asks for confirmation unless it’s the newest message).
Re-run this turnOn an agent’s reply, resends the user message that produced it.

Failed sends show “Not sent”; a failed tool call shows a failed-tool card with the error and an “Ask <agent> to fix” button; a failed turn shows a turn-error card with a Retry button and a shortcut to change that agent’s model.

When an agent needs more information, a dock appears between the messages and the composer — it can’t scroll out of view, even in Quick Chat’s short window. The header reads “<Agent> is asking”. Answer each question, then:

  • Submit answers — sends your answers back to the agent.
  • Skip all — dismisses the form without answering.
  • Answer in chat instead — closes the form and lets you type a free-form reply in the composer instead.
A question form, pinned above the composer in Quick Chat.

In Approve execution mode, a tool call the agent wants to run shows the same kind of dock, with a preview of what it would do — a command line, or a diff for a file write or edit — and where it would run (the daemon’s server, or this computer, tagged accordingly). Decide with:

  • Reject
  • Approve all this turn — approves this and any further requests until the turn ends.
  • Approve

Each conversation has one of three execution modes, set from the composer’s mode pill (Full workspace) or the Quick Chat More menu:

ModeBehavior
PlanAgents propose; nothing runs.
ApproveAsk before writes and commands (see above).
AutoRun tools within device permissions, without asking each time.

A reply that used tools shows a tool-call group (or, in the Full workspace, a one-line summary chip that opens the Activity inspector tab instead). Each tool line is tagged Daemon or This computer, so you always know where it ran.

A tool-call group, and the same activity in the inspector's Activity tab.

Some replies also include an “At a glance” summary card with a status chip (for example Done, Blocked, Needs you) above the full text.

When a reply finishes, a question is asked, or an approval is needed in a conversation that isn’t currently visible on screen, Snippbot Desktop sends a native desktop notification. It also keeps a running unread count as a badge on the Dock icon (macOS) or the taskbar (Windows) for however many conversations currently need you.

  • ⌘S (Windows: Ctrl+S) saves the file you’re editing on an agent’s edit page, when there are unsaved changes.
  • Esc closes whatever overlay is currently open — a modal, a preview, a suggestion popup, and so on.
