Snippbot Desktop
Snippbot Desktop is a native Tauri 2 chat client for macOS and Windows. It talks to your own Snippbot daemon — the same backend the web UI and mobile app use — over HTTP, SSE and WebSockets. It is not a hosted service, and it does not bundle, start or stop the daemon: your agents, routing, memory and jobs all live on the daemon, local or remote, and they keep working whether or not the desktop app is open.
Two windows, one chat engine
Section titled “Two windows, one chat engine”Snippbot Desktop has exactly two windows:
| Window | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Full workspace | A full desktop window with a sidebar, split tab groups, an inspector panel, menus and a command palette. See Workspace. |
| Quick Chat | A small (420×560) frameless popover summoned by a global hotkey or the tray/menu-bar icon. One conversation at a time. See Quick Chat. |
Both windows render the same chat engine and can show the same conversation; a turn keeps streaming even if you close the window it started in.
What stays in the web UI
Section titled “What stays in the web UI”Snippbot Desktop deliberately doesn’t replace the web UI. Memory, Skills, Workflows, Marketplace, and most Settings (Profile, Model Routing, Security, Voice, Channels, Remote Access) open your browser to the daemon’s web UI instead of being rebuilt natively. The desktop app’s own Settings cover AI Providers, sign-in, appearance, the Quick Chat hotkey, and the local tool runner — see Settings & Shortcuts.
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”| Requirement | |
|---|---|
| macOS | macOS 13 or later. Separate downloads for Apple Silicon and Intel. |
| Windows | Windows 10 (1809+) or Windows 11. |
| Linux | Not built in this release. |
| Daemon | Snippbot daemon 0.11.1 or later — older daemons don’t allow the app’s CORS origin or support “keep me signed in.” |
| Network | The app connects out to your daemon over HTTP(S), SSE and WebSockets. It never listens for incoming connections. |
