Optional features
pipx install snippbot gives you almost everything. A few pieces are left out because they are large or only a few people need them. You add those in one of two ways:
- In the app: Chromium for the browser tool, and the Memory Nebula visualization pack. Snippbot shows you exactly what it will install, then installs it. No restart needed.
- From a terminal: a handful of niche extras, such as Solana wallet signing.
See what you have
Section titled “See what you have”Open Settings → Features. It lists every feature in three groups:
| Group | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Install in the app | Chromium and the Memory visualization pack, with an Install… button for any that aren’t installed yet |
| Included with Snippbot | Features that ship with every install. Each one shows Installed, Missing (the install is damaged; see Repair a missing feature), or Not available here with the reason, when your OS or Python version can’t run it |
| Optional extras | Terminal-only extras, each with the exact command for your install and a Copy button |
The same list is in the terminal:
snippbot doctorLook for the Features check. It prints how many features are available, what isn’t installed, and the repair command if something is missing.
Included with every install
Section titled “Included with every install”| Feature | Notes |
|---|---|
| Semantic memory recall and search | On-device embeddings, no PyTorch. The model (~90 MB) downloads the first time it’s used |
| Local voice: speech-to-text (faster-whisper) and text-to-speech (piper) | Voice models download the first time they’re used |
| Agent browser tool (Playwright) | Needs Chromium, which you install in the app, or your own Chrome |
| Gmail tool | |
| Web search without a Brave key (DuckDuckGo) | |
| Image OCR | macOS and Windows use the OS’s own OCR. On Linux it’s the ocr extra |
| Remote-session TOTP, JSONPath hook filters, automatic ngrok tunnel, vector search over workspace files |
Local voice and semantic memory need a supported OS and Python version. On an older Mac they may show Not available here. See Platform support.
Install in the app
Section titled “Install in the app”| Pack | Size | What it’s for | Also offered in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Browser (Chromium) | ~280 MB | The Chromium build the agent browser tool drives. Skip it if you point the browser at your own Chrome | Settings → Browser |
| Memory visualization pack (scikit-learn + UMAP) | ~70–110 MB | Groups memories into clusters and draws the Memory Nebula map. Memory recall and search work without it | Memory → Explore |
To install one:
- Go to Settings → Features and click Install… next to the pack.
- Review the plan. Before anything changes, the dialog lists every package and version (new, upgraded or downgraded), the download sizes, any optional piece that isn’t available for your platform, and the exact command Snippbot will run.
- Click Install. The install runs in the background with a live log. You can close the dialog; it keeps going, and View progress brings it back.
When it finishes, the feature works straight away. You don’t need to restart Snippbot.
If Snippbot can’t install into its own environment, for example when it runs from a system Python marked externally managed, the dialog shows the command to run yourself instead.
Optional extras
Section titled “Optional extras”These are added from a terminal:
| Extra | Adds |
|---|---|
wallet | Solana signing for the agent wallet |
ocr | Tesseract OCR, for Linux. Also install the tesseract program, for example sudo apt install tesseract-ocr |
archives | .7z upload support |
visualization | The Memory visualization pack. The same as installing it in the app |
embeddings | The PyTorch (sentence-transformers) embedding backend. You don’t normally need it: the built-in backend produces the same vectors |
all | Everything above except archives |
Settings → Features and snippbot doctor print the right command for your install, with your version filled in. Copying it from there is the easiest way. The command depends on how you installed Snippbot:
pipx runpip snippbot install 'snippbot[wallet]==<version>'uv tool install --force 'snippbot[wallet]==<version>'~/.snippbot-venv/bin/python -m pip install 'snippbot[wallet]==<version>'Replace wallet with the extra you want, and <version> with the version snippbot --version prints. Pinning the version adds the extra without upgrading Snippbot. Restart Snippbot afterwards (snippbot service restart, or stop and start it).
Repair a missing feature
Section titled “Repair a missing feature”A feature marked Missing should have come with Snippbot, so the install is damaged, usually by an interrupted install or upgrade. Settings → Features shows a banner with the repair command, and snippbot doctor prints it too. For a pipx install it looks like this:
pipx runpip snippbot install 'snippbot==<version>'This reinstalls anything missing and leaves the rest of the install alone. Restart Snippbot afterwards.
