Quick Chat
Quick Chat is a small, frameless popover window (420×560 by default) for one conversation at a time — built for “hit a hotkey, ask something, get an answer, move on” without opening the Full workspace.
Opening it
Section titled “Opening it”- Global hotkey —
⌥Spaceon macOS,Alt+Spaceon Windows, from anywhere, even while another app is focused. Change it any time in Settings → This desktop app → Quick chat. - Tray / menu-bar icon — click it to toggle Quick Chat open or closed.
It hides when you click away
Section titled “It hides when you click away”Quick Chat is a popover, not a normal window: it hides automatically when it loses focus — click elsewhere, and it disappears, the same way a menu-bar dropdown does. It briefly tolerates focus moving away during a resize or drag so moving the window doesn’t make it vanish out from under you.
Title bar controls
Section titled “Title bar controls”- History — the clock icon (and the conversation title button next to it) opens a dropdown of recent conversations to switch to, with an option to continue in the Full workspace instead.
- New chat (
⌘N) — opens a menu to start a new conversation, optionally with a specific agent. - More — a menu with this conversation’s execution mode (Plan / Approve / Auto), Jobs & check-ins, and shortcuts to Agents & their models, AI providers, and This computer & sign-in (all of which open in the Full workspace).
- Expand (the icon at the far right) — Open in Full workspace: opens or focuses the Full window on this same conversation and hides Quick Chat.
Tab-group awareness
Section titled “Tab-group awareness”If the Full workspace has more than one tab group open, Quick Chat shows a small bar above the conversation listing them, so you can jump straight to any chat open in Full without leaving the popover:
- By default it’s a dropdown: click it to see every tab group and the chats inside each one, each tagged with its state (Needs you, Running, Failed, New reply, Done).
- Click the pin icon to switch to “Pin tab groups open” instead — an always-visible accordion of groups, one section per group, so you don’t have to reopen the dropdown each time.
Quick Chat deliberately leaves some things out — sidebar/history browsing beyond the dropdown above, room-roster editing, the full tool inspector, and most slash commands. Anything you need beyond that is one click away via Open in Full workspace.
